These reasons can either be based on a shortage of work or personal reasons. Case law has provided guidance over the years on what constitutes such reasons. In the case of personal reasons, a court must ultimately be able to assess that the employee is no longer suitable to continue his or her employment with the employer and that it is also not reasonable to reassign the employee to another position. A shortage of work exists when there is redundancy, which is assessed based on the employee&#039;s qualifications and length of
